Mahjong solitaire, not the table game

What the web calls mahjong is the single-player tile-matching game: a layout of stacked tiles, and you remove pairs that are free on at least one side. It shares the tiles with the four-player Chinese table game and nothing else. Within that, two variants recur in the catalog — connect games, where a pair may be cleared if a path with at most two turns joins them, and tower layouts that stack high instead of wide — and the sections below surface them when the inventory has enough of each.

It is a close relative of solitaire and of the pairing end of memory games; if you want the broader logic family, start at puzzle games.

Strategy in a sentence

Clear the tall stacks and the long rows first, and when a tile type has all four copies visible, take the pair that frees the most. Shuffles and hints exist in nearly every browser version; using them costs score, not the game.

Mahjong is tap-only and slow-paced, which makes it one of the most comfortable games on a tablet.
